Planted in 1969 raised from seed of an open pollinated tree on the terrace walk by Harman
Dool. With glowing purple outer tepals and white with a purple edge inside.
Selected from a group of one hundred seedlings planted here in 1969.A superb dark wine red
that stands out among its neighbouring trees.
Tepals = 12 , broadly ovate ,10cm x 6cm
Dark wine red exterior and clear white with purple edges interior
Peduncle = very downy which suggests the mollicomata influence.
Named for the late creator of Exbury Gardens in England Mr Lionel de Rothschild who
greatly influenced the late Mr Ambrose Congreve when creating the gardens here
